How to Order a Cheesesteak You might think it silly, but there is a right way and a wrong way to order a cheesesteak. There is a short learning process for those newly initiated to this famous Philadelphia sandwich. But have no fear, we are happy to work with you to make sure you get what you came for.First of all, don't ask for a "steak and cheese" or a "Philly". Let's call it what it really is, a "cheesesteak." Many people, when ordering, start to tell me what they don't want on their cheesesteak. A cheesesteak doesn't automatically come with anything on it, except cheese of course. You have to tell us "what you want", not "what you don't want". So what is a Philly Cheesesteak then? It is exactly what it says it is. Steak topped with cheese. All other toppings are up to the person ordering. If a Steak Shop uses the right steak, rolls, and cheese, you can add anything you want to the sandwich and it is still a Philly Cheesesteak. (oh, and never call it a SUB, a cheesesteak is not a SUB, it's a sandwich) The second biggest mis-steak many people outside of the Philadelphia area make is their choice of toppings. Here are some normal toppings for a cheesesteak; fried onions, hot peppers, sweet peppers, mushrooms, roasted peppers, green peppers, lettuce, and tomato. That's it, with just a few exceptions, anything else would be UN-Philly. Remember these guidelines and you will be rewarded with one of the finest sandwiches on the planet. |
