October Surprise Busted
This is it. Or, this was supposed to be it, the October Surprise. 385 Tons of the highest-grade most powerful explosives, some of which can be used to detonate a nuclear bomb, are missing from a depot in Iraq. This news 'breaks' yesterday. The media and John Kerry absolutely jump on this and point to Bush as being a big failure for it.
Something important is missing in this hysteria. The DATE.
The report does not tell you, and neither does candidate Kerry, that this weapons dump was virtually empty when they got to it in April of 2003. This was reported on April 10, 2003 by an NBC news reporter who was an 'inbed' with the 101st who were there first, and NBC news replayed it last night. Seems the leadup to the war was long enough for Saddam to have emptied it. Thanks to the UN, France, Russia, Germany, and China, on the take in Saddam's Oil-For-Food program.
This weapons depot was, ahem, under the supervision and control of the United Nations until January 2003. It was also the repository for Saddams nuclear weapons program, which is why the UN was there. In April 2003, when our soldiers got there, the place was empty. It was the United Nations' own records that account for what had been there.
The background to this whole story has roots in the United Nations and Mohammed ElBaradei of the International Atomic Energy Agency, and the New York Times, and CBS news. But that's a whole other story.
The point is, the man proclaiming nothing but truth and honesty in an administration, John Kerry, was out there last night and is out there right now on the campaign trail, using this story that he knows to be false to beat on Bush with. To call him a liar would be giving him some slack, because we're not talking about a card game, what is at stake is the future of our country, and civilization as we know it, and shows how the Kerry campaign will go to any length to get back in power.
Now, if 385 tons of explosives has 'disappeared', can anyone still assume that Iraq never had any WMD's?
Watch how much longer the media carries the water on this lie. Watch for the ads on TV and know that they're just lies. They truly are doing all within their power to influence this election. The Kerry campaign is, so far, hanging their hat on this, to their detriment.

"The chances that enemy forces moved 377 tons of heavy ordnance out of the Al Qaqaa arms facility after U.S. forces arrived in the area are nearly impossible," said Army Col. David Perkins, who commanded the American troops who took the area during major combat operations in Iraq in 2003.
