Papantonio & Kennedy Talk Radio
Latest news in talk radio has it that Mike Papantonio and Robert Kennedy Jr. are teaming up to rally the liberal voice as, they hope, to be the 'Rush Limbaugh' for the left. They plan to be on the same network as Al Franken, of 'big fat liar' fame, Air America Radio. I for one wish them the best of luck.
They obviously feel that they have to respond to the conservative talkers like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. As if ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, CNN, MSNBC, and NPR just isn't enough. To me it seems like it is more a case of quality than quantity. Two or three conservative voices has the rest of them so upset that Papantonio is building a state-of-the-art studio at his Baylen St. location, right here in Pensacola. It will apparently take the combined fortunes of Papantonio and Kennedy to have a go at it. More power to them.
Considering the free market, it remains to be seen if their ideas are anything that the radio audience wants to hear. Other attempts at liberal talkers have gone bust. Their best chance of success would be to stick to ideas rather than name-calling. I have yet to hear a liberal idea that didn't also include something derogatory aimed at a personality with an opposing viewpoint. You've heard it all before. Some of their most effective tactics is playing the race card and class warfare. Notice they are always 'fighting.' Fighting for minorities, fighting for 'working people,' fighting for redistribution of wealth. Fighting for labor unions, fighting for 'rights' that don't exist. Makes perfect sense to the unmotivated who have been taught to expect someone else to do something for them for free. Who could argue against that? Nothing is free however when it comes down to legal terms.
The truth of the matter will be in the profit & loss statement of the PK radio show. The studio and all its costs are one thing. One could expect a new business to go a year or two, or even more, before it begins to make a profit. Conservative talk radio is actually supported by advertisers who are supported by listeners. Will PK radio have the same success, or will it have to be fed by the special interests of the left to stay on the air? Whichever way keeps them on the air will determine whether it is a legitimate business or a mouth organ of the left.

Air America is in trouble, in case you haven't heard. They've lost Los Angeles and Chicago markets, they've lost a big sponsor, General Motors. As of today they are "natiowide in 11 cities." No word yet what affect it will have on the PK Radio show.
In fact, there has been no word from them whatsoever. Look for "broadcast studio for sale, never used," in the penny saver. |

Well, what a difference 4 days makes. Right from Air America Radio's website, its the RING OF FIRE radio show. Starring Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Mike Papantonio as co-host.
They are on one hour a week. Saturday mornings 9am-10am CST. Listen to them on satelite radio or on the net, unless you happen to be in one of the 11 cities/markets in the country that carry their signal.
"Ring of Fire promises the rebirth of populism". What Who would be for eliminating the electoral college function in general elections? Ask any activist democrat. |

NOTICE: Due to Air America's bogus information concerning the PK Radio Show, they call it the Ring of Fire, I have to make a correction. The big show is only on for 30 minutes a week NOT one hour like their website says. I listened to it today on the internet. Between the two of them, and a couple calls, there's no time except for them to spew their spin.
This show is an environmental wacko's dream. On today's 'broad'cast, Kennedy and Papantonio blamed domestic oil producers and the Bush administration for the 'high' prices at the pump. And criticized the administration for using qualified advisors, people who know the oil industry, to draw expertise from. And also 'we' have declared war on some poor woman who apparently lives near a coal mine. They define 'we' as this country.
And Kennedy, who sounds like he's got severe health issues, is just astounded at how efficient our coal mining process is. Only he paints a picture of them raping the earth and filling in rivers with the by-products.
Sensational, hyperbole, crap. Why, they lopped off a mountaintop and just dumped it into a river Kennedy said.
Didn't hear any solutions offered to the energy crisis. They didn't mention the energy bill that they are refusing to pass, for 3 years now. None of that. It's 30 min. of liberal anti-business anti-energy, environmental wacko spin.
They took zero calls and e-mails (out of the 2 or 3 calls they took) from someone with a differing opinion. Guess one can't enter the Ring of Fire. The show could be called the Blow Torch instead. |
